Sidney Museum from April – July, 2023 The Sidney Museum is celebrating the beauty and diversity of life, people and work on the Peninsula. They invited photographers to be part of this exhibit to highlight the diversity and beauty of the region. See several images from Steve Smith and Leah Gray are on display at the Sidney Museum until the end of July (2023).

Every spring, along Lochside Drive in Sidney, a large plot of land near the ocean is meticulously planted with tulips by an industrious older couple. Every spring a variety of photographers endeavor to capture this glorious display of colour. This image was captured in a slightly different manner than the usual photography enthusiasts efforts. This image was captured in the dying light of the day, showing off the splashes and powerful movement of these wild mares in the ocean waves. It is always a pleasure to photograph the ancient breed of Camargue horses on the Rhône delta. These horses are native to the south of France. This image was captured on a foggy morning near the Oak Bay Marina. The Great Blue Heron was hunting for breakfast near the shore, making it’s way past the soft outline of the sailboat hidden in the fog. Canada, through CAPA (Canadian Association for Photographic Art) competes yearly with inter photographic societies in the Four Nations Competition. This year the image “Killer Fin” (above)was selected to join 79 other images from across the country. This Orca Whale surfaced just behind our boat. The image “Grizzly with Salmon Roe” captured the Best in Show award at the recent 2021 Lion’s Gate Celebration of Nature competition. The results were announced in January, 2022.
