Photography Classes

We are pleased to offer photography classes in the greater Victoria area at the Panorama Recreation Centre in North Saanich. Instruction will be given by Leah Gray and, Steve Smith ,

  • September 19-20, 2026 (Four locations near Victoria/Sidney).
  • Join award-winning photographers Steve Smith and Leah Gray for a weekend of photographic discovery. Come with us to experiment with old and newly learned techniques in three different local outdoor locations (2 morning shoots and an evening shoot). Your instructors will be beside you helping to identify the light, the composition and assist you as you experiment with your captures. We will finish off the weekend by processing your images and enjoying an image review. Locations will be mostly on the Saanich Peninsula with one morning in Downtown Victoria..   • November 15th, 22nd, 29th 2026 class (3 classes over 3 weekends)
  • Photography is the art of “writing with light”. By mastering the nuances of light, one can significantly enhance the quality of one’s photographs.
    
    We will commence with an exploration of natural light and subsequently address artificially created light using continuous lights, speed-lights, and studio equipment. We will examine the properties of light, types of light, polarized light, the inverse law and measuring light. This knowledge will help students recognize and utilize light effectively in various photographic genres from macro and portraits to wildlife and landscape photography.
    
    Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of lighting principles and develop strategies for improving their photographic skills.
    
    This course is intended for intermediate and advanced photographers, but beginner photographers are welcome to attend and will certainly benefit from the experience.
