Eventide
This image was captured in the dying light of the day, showing off the splashes and powerful movement of these wild mares in the ocean waves.
It is always a pleasure to photograph the ancient breed of Camargue horses on the Rhône delta. These horses are native to the south of France. They are considered one of the oldest breeds in the world, having lived in this harsh swampy environment for centuries, possibly thousands of years. Camargue horses are traditionally managed in “manades” – small feral herds with no extra feed provided.
This group of mares would have lived together for most of their lives. Horses are highly social, and every mare knows where her place is among her companions.
This image has been accepted into 8 international exhibitions, earning one medal. It is part of a PSA (Photographic Society of America) portfolio award which was earned in 2021.
This wrapped archival canvas print is available for viewing at Luxe Home Interiors in Victoria, B.C.
